Friend or Foe?

Forgive me reader for I have sinned.  It’s been at least six months since my last post.

But at least I got my kid to write something.

I love summer, but it drives me crazy to see my kids laying around, watching TV, playing video games, or just lounging.  You know what they say…’The idle mind is the devil’s playground.’  (My kids think I’m crazy too, so you’re not alone.)  Anyway, that’s partly the reason that I got my kid to write the previous post; make him work his mind a bit.  It’s also the reason I gave in to Tess after 10 months of begging for a hamster.  I figured a new pet would keep her busy and teach her responsibility.

Who are we fooling…I’m just a sucker who gave in.

And I knew the resident predators could be a problem.  I’m just not sure whether or not they think hamsters are food or friends.  The day after the ‘incident’ I was rushing out the door with the kids, trying to make it to their annual checkup, and there is predator number 1.

Innocent until proven guilty

And not three feet in front of her is a Bluejay who seemed to be fighting for its life!  Maggie was busy picking up random feathers that were laying all over the place which naturally grossed me out, so I grabbed her and demanded the rest of the litter ‘get in the car or you’re not going to see a video game until the end of the summer!’  And I thought about that poor bird all through the doctor appointment and as we made our way back home, a minivan with four vaccine victims holding their sore arms.  I reluctantly walked towards the front door, knowing the carcass I would soon encounter….but no.  The Bluejay got away.  Or was it set free?  Was this a message of truce between predator and prey?  Or was it the first of many threats?

I'll get you my pretty...

Only time will tell.  I’ll try to keep you posted!
